We struggled with this situation for hours, but no solution. Even QuickHeal Support had no solution. So we decided to re-install QuickHeal on one of our test Mail Servers. Same situation.

Then we started exploring each option, till we bumped into Email -> Allow Trusted Clients to Send Email. This option was turned on which implied that only trusted email clients, typically Outlook and Outlook Express will be able to send email from the server. We turned this option off and the problem was resolved.

We decided to post this article to our blog so that other QuickHeal users can benefit from this information.

Mails are bouncing back from user accounts on your domain even though individual mailboxes are empty. The error is “Domain Size Limit Exceeded”.

Solution:

Domains are always setup under a particular hosting package which gives you XXX MB of email space for your domain in totality. Most of the hosting packages limit individual mailboxes to XX MB of email space per mailbox. However, some users prefer to leave the email space per mailbox to unlimited. In such a scenario if one user mailbox or a few mailboxes take up the entire space for your hosting package (because of unlimited space per mailbox), other users whose mailbox is completely empty would also not be able to receive emails since your total domain email space quota is full. The sender would receive a message back from our server stating the error message “Domain Size Limit Exceeded”. We strongly encourage that you restrict indvidual mailbox sizes to a desired size so that the problem is limited to an individual mailbox and not the entire domain.

You may get the error message ‘The server does not support a SSL connection. Account; mail.yourdomainname.com Server ‘mail.yourdomainname.com.’ Protocol SMTP, server response ’250 HELP’ Port; 25, Secure (SSL) Yes, Server Error 250, error number 0x800CCC7D.’

Solution

This problem happens because your version of Outlook Express is set up to use Secure Socket Layer (SSL), which we do not use.

To fix this problem, open Outlook Express, and click:

• Tools
• Accounts
• Then click on your mail account and click Properties
• Then click Advanced
• On this screen remove the checks from the boxes This server requires a secure connection for both Outgoing mail (SMTP) and Incoming mail (POP3).

There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected.’mail.yourdomainname.com’, Server: ‘mail.yourdomainname.com’, Protocol: POP3, Server Response: ‘-ERR invalid user or password’, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

Solution

Check your Outlook Express settings. Make sure that the POP3 and SMTP servers are set to mail.yourdomainname.com, and that your full username (your email address) and password are correct.

If you are still having problems, it could be that your password has been changed by your administrator or it has somehow become corrupted. Please contact your local system administrator first. Solution

This error message is caused by the fact that you have set an anti virus program, in this case Norton AntiVirus, to scan all emails automatically.

Changing the settings within Outlook Express will not solve this issue. You need to go to Norton and change the settings there.

You may get one of the following error messages;
The connection to the server has failed. Account: ‘mail.yourdomainname.com’, Server: ‘mail.yourdomainname.com’, Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
The host ‘mail.yourdomainname.com’ could not be found. Please verify that you have entered server name correctly. Account:’yourname’, Server ‘mail.yourdomainname.com; protocol: POP3, Port:110′Secure(SSL):No, Socket Error:11001,Error Number 0x800CCC0D.

Solution

If you have not changed anything since the last time you checked / sent mail, do not adjust your settings simply close Outlook Express, reopen it and try again later.

If this has not resolved your problem you need to check your Outlook Express settings, making sure that the POP3 and SMTP servers are set to mail.yourdomainname.com, and that your full user name and password are correct.

Then test your connection by following this procedure.
Click the Start button then RUN type in cmd on (Windows NT/2000/XP) or Command (Windows 95/98/ME). This will open a new command prompt window, with white text on a black screen.

Type in the following exactly as it appears.

telnet mail.yourdomainname.com 110 and then click the Enter key on your keyboard. You will then be connected to the email server.

Type in USER followed by your email address e.g. USER username@yourdomainname.com and then click the Enter key. You will then get a message +OK

Please enter your pass, with the PASS command

Type in PASS followed by your password e.g. PASS us1234 and click the Enter key. If it is correct, you will get an OK Well done message.

If you can do this, you have connected to our server and so the problem lies somewhere with Outlook Express.

If you can’t get in this way either, it could be that your password has been reset by your system administrator or it has somehow become corrupted. Try contacting your system administrator for a password reset or call us on +91-9213943166 for assistance. Try again.

If this does not resolve your problem are you running anti virus software or firewalls? If so disable them and try again.

If the problem has vanished, configuration of these products could be the problem, particularly if they are set to automatically scan incoming and outgoing email.
NOTE: Windows XP has a firewall built into the operating system which you can disable by selecting there too and try again.

Solution

This problem happens because you have not enabled SMTP authentication in your email client. Check the configuration instructions for Outlook Express in this Knowledge Base to see how to enable SMTP authentication.

When you start Outlook Express or try to send an e-mail message, you may get the following error message:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: ‘mail.yourdomainname.com’, Server: ‘mail.yourdomainname.com’, Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Solution

Check your Outlook Express settings, making sure that the POP3 and SMTP servers are set to mail.yourdomainname.com, and that your full user name and password are correct. (Tip. Watch out for SMTP spelt as STMP, and that commas are not there in place of full points).

If you’re still having problems, it could be that Outlook Express is itself corrupt. Microsoft’s instructions on how to delete it and reinstall it, along with making a backup of your address books etc, are at for Windows 95, 98, and ME and for Windows 2000.
